Universal Studios moved one of it’s releases (“The Adjustment Bureau”) from July 30 to September, and when they thought they would let the blockbuster season (summer) without delivering the public anything that could appeal the masses, the moved Zac Efron starring movie “The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud” from October 15 to July 30. Coincidently or not, July 30th is also the release of Zac Efron’s girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens starring movie “Beastly”.
The Hollywood Couple will battle for the opening weekend box office of their movies, since both actors appeal to the always-hungry Disney crowd for featuring former Disney stars (and couple). It isn’t a very smart move for Universal Studios though, says MTV Hollywood Crush movies blog, as “St. Cloud” has had no marketing so far, while CBS Films have been hyping “Beastly” since the beginning of the year, the initial fear was actually “Bureau” getting overshadowed by “Inception”, another Universal production, getting released a few weeks earlier.
Critics do not applaud the move, as summer releases are usually low-key dramas, comedies or children-teen targeting flicks as “St. Cloud” appeals to an older audience than the usual summer crowd at the movies for being a dramatic picture, but Universal is sure Zac Efron’s star power will give it the box office magic…
