MSNBC: As Brandon Walsh on “Beverly Hills, 90210,” Jason Priestley made a generation of young girls swoon during the 1990s. But now, Priestley says that honor has been passed to a new young “High School” heartthrob. “Zac Efron is the new Jason Priestley,” Priestley told “Valentine in the Morning” on L.A.’s 104.3 MYFM on Tuesday.
And while it may be hard to compete with Priestley’s trademark sideburns, the actor thinks Zac Efron has him beat in one physical aspect. “He’s got better abs than I ever had,” Priestley added.
Despite Efron’s tidal wave of success, Priestley said he doesn’t envy the young actor’s position in Hollywood these days. “It’s so different. So much harsher now than it was for us. Brutal,” Priestley admitted. “The paparazzi that stalk these poor kids — and their kids! You know what I mean?”
And if he were to offer any advice to the new generation of pop culture superstars, Jason said it’s important to keep priorities in order.
“My belief has always been it’s about the work. The fame should always be a byproduct of quality work. Don’t get into this business with the hopes of becoming famous,” he said. “If you get into this business with the sole purpose of becoming famous, you’re going to find that fame is empty and hollow and you’ll end up naked and strung out on the streets of downtown Los Angeles.”
Zac Efron’s comedy has topped the U.S. box office this weekend.

Zac Efron got stunned when he walked from his bathroom, after taking shower, to his room and found a deer chewing on his bedcovers.
Zac Efron, who recently moved to a US$1.3 million mansion in Hollywood Hills surrounded by nature and wild life, found the animal munching on his linen after he had left the doors to his bedroom opened.
A source tells My Park Mag UK: ‘Zac has these special accordion-style doors in his room, and as it’s so private he often leaves them open. He couldn’t believe it when he walked into the room to discover the deer. Although he was a bit frightened the deer looked completely uninterested in him and just continued chewing’.
Zac managed to lure the animal back outside by tempting him with lettuce.
Zac Efron is, according to Just Jared Jr., reportedly the first name attached to the title character of the live action film ‘Jonny Quest’, that is on plans to be taken to huge screens by Warner Bros.
The 21-year-old actor is the top contender for the role, reports IESB, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is linked to bodyguard role, Race Bannon.
Dwayne dished to IESB recently about the lead role of Jonny, saying, “Cause you want to be true to it and you want to honor that and I loved Jonny Quest when I was a kid. If you go a little older, it gives you more, it allows you to be…it just gives you a bit more, you know. But then you want to honor it too, so…”
The animated 1960s series told of a boy, 11-year-old Jonny, who accompanies his father, Dr. Benton Quest, on extraordinary adventures. Fearing Jonny could end up in the wrong hands, a special agent/bodyguard/pilot from Intelligence One Government, Race Bannon, is hired to guard and train him.
‘Hairspray’ director Adam Shankman left out a little on the sequel to the blockbuster movie-musical and how Zac Efron and Brittany Snow fit in the big picture.

Rumors about ‘Hairspray 2′ were walking around the web for the last few months, but only earlier this December that director Adam Shankman confirmed to MTV Movies Blog that him and John Walters are working on the sequel plot, that will take Zac Efron and the rest into the late sixties.
‘Scott and I are certainly on board,’ Oscar-nominated composer/producer Marc Shaiman assured to MTV, saying he’ll once again return with partner Scott Wittman to the musical/movie franchise they helped build from Waters’ 1988 cult film. ‘John Waters wrote a treatment that is so f–king hysterical!’
As for the plot, he said: ‘People hate Tracy (Nikki Blonsky) because she doesn’t lose weight. They ask ‘Now that you’re famous, why won’t you lose weight?’. And Link (Efron) experiments with drugs. Throughout half the movie, he has an ongoing dialogue with three pimples on his forehead[...]Edna (John Travolta) loses weight, but sees her husband (Christopher Walken) lusting after fat women,’ Shaiman laughed, citing one of the musical numbers he’s particularly eager to write. ‘And so, she finally breaks down and runs over to a snack table. Just within one number, she gets fat again; gaining 20 pounds at a time. [Her fat] pops out, and by the end of the song she’s completely at her old weight again’
Shaiman also said another fun facet of the ‘Hairspray’ sequel will be writing Beatles and Kinks-era tunes to depict Efron’s desire to remain hip during the British Invasion.
‘Part of John Waters’ idea is that he gets caught up trying to masquerade himself as a member of the British Invasion,’ Shaiman said of Efron. ‘And it’s wearing that mop-top Beatles hairdo that causes those pimples on his forehead!’
‘The Sixties is just the most fantastic era for music, because it was so wide-ranging. I grew up then, and on the radio you’d have Frank Sinatra going into ‘White Rabbit’ by Jefferson Airplane, going into Peggy Lee, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones,’ he marveled, hoping that the final script will keep Waters’ crazed vision intact when ‘Hairspray 2′ hits theaters in summer 2010. ‘There was so many different kinds of music, all on the same radio stations. That’s what’s so great about writing for that era.’
